Jerry & Charlotte Lundergan
The Vision
Jerry Lundergan’s vision for the Gardens at St. Patrick’s is both deeply personal and profoundly spiritual—a lifelong dream rooted in his faith, his family, and his enduring connection to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maysville, Kentucky. Built on grounds that hold generations of his family’s history, the Gardens transform a place of remembrance into a living expression of devotion. From the beginning, his intent was not to create a passive display, but an immersive spiritual journey—one that allows visitors to walk in the footsteps of Christ through a carefully designed path inspired by the Via Dolorosa, brought to life through powerful, life-sized bronze sculptures that invite reflection, emotion, and prayer.
Conceived as a gift rather than a personal endeavor, the Gardens are intended to serve both the Church and the broader community for generations to come. Jerry envisioned a space that would welcome all people—regardless of denomination—to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their faith, offering a setting where the story of Christ’s Passion can be experienced in a deeply human and tangible way. At the same time, the Gardens stand as a landmark of faith and a destination of regional and national significance, drawing visitors to Maysville while supporting the mission of St. Patrick Church and its school.
Ultimately, the Gardens at St. Patrick’s are a reflection of Jerry Lundergan’s enduring belief in the power of faith, beauty, and community. They are not simply a place to visit, but a place to encounter something greater—designed to inspire contemplation, renewal, and a deeper understanding of Christ’s sacrifice, while leaving a lasting legacy for all who walk its paths.
